Why Three and a Half Thumbs? First let us ask you a few questions: Why two thumbs up? Why 3 out of 5 stars? Why a 7 out of 10? Why 12% on Rotten Tomatoes? Do these numbers seem somewhat arbitrary to you?
Critics and review sites serve a useful purpose; they help people decide on what movie they should go see on the weekend or whether or not a book is worth reading. They help us efficiently utilize our short time on this floating orb in the middle of nowhere as to not spend it sitting through a terrible movie or wasting hard earned money on something we hate.
This is not a review site. This is a site about love—love and passion. It’s about the transcendent relationship between the individual and the art form. If you’ve ever seen a film that felt like it had something worthwhile to say, if you’ve ever had a piece of music–whether it be a two minute East Coast Punk song from 1983 or Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21—truly move you in a way you’ve never felt before, or read a cheesy sci-fi novel that changed your life or world view for the better, then this site is for you.
Three and Half Thumbs is a site about movies, music, books and even video games. It is our expression of how we feel about them using our individual knowledge and experience in the hope that we can encourage you to experience something new or different, offer some new perspective and maybe even give you something to think about. For us, art is not a distraction; it is one of the many things in this world that make life worth living.
